Lives Transformed at Sai Niketana

Rajendra Bhuyan: From Lost to Found

On October 14, 2024, officials found Rajendra Bhuyan wandering disoriented in Guvedapadu, Manjeshwar, and brought him to Sai Nikethana Seva Ashram. He had been separated from his family in Jharkhand for nearly a year, his mental health deteriorating during his time as a homeless person.

At Sai Nikethana, Rajendra received our holistic care approach: medication, structured exercise, counseling, and community activities. As his clarity returned, our team meticulously pieced together fragments of information about his home and family.

Through persistent investigation, we successfully traced Rajendra’s roots to a village in Palama district of Jharkhand, and contacted his family who had been searching for him unsuccessfully. For the final journey home, we collaborated with Shraddha Rehabilitation Center in Mumbai, who helped transport him safely across the country.

On March 10, 2025, after months of healing and careful planning, Rajendra was reunited with his mother, who embraced him with tears of joy. This moment—a mother who had feared her son lost forever now welcoming him home—reaffirmed our mission at Sai Nikethana: restoring lives and rebuilding connections that seemed irretrievably broken.

From Beach to Beacon: Mrs. Shobha’s Story

In November 2018, we found Mrs. Shobha living on a beach with just one piece of clothing, surviving on biscuits from strangers. Diagnosed with schizophrenia and deeply distrustful of everyone, she initially refused all help. Today, she not only manages her own recovery but dedicates her time to caring for other residents at Sai Nikethana. This transformation was possible because people like you chose to support our work. Join us in creating more stories of hope and healing.

Silent Resilience: Rajesh’s Story

Rajesh

In 2020, our team at Sai Nikethana received information about a speechless elderly man who had been living destitute at a bus station about 15 kilometers from our ashram for nearly two weeks. Acting immediately, we brought him to our facility.
Rajesh, as we now call him, communicates solely through hand gestures and a few sounds. His body bears scars from a childhood fire accident. He often points to a Hanuman tattoo on his arm and carries a photo of Shirdi Sai Baba, suggesting spiritual connections important to his identity.
Though mentally alert and aware, Rajesh’s inability to speak has made it impossible to trace his address or family. At Sai Nikethana, he has found a safe haven where his needs are met with dignity and compassion, reminding us that communication extends beyond words and that every life deserves respect regardless of circumstance.

From Affluence to Acceptance: Leela’s Journey

In the 1970s, Leela Kamat was one of her town’s most influential citizens—a Panchayat member who owned buildings, businesses, and 5 kilograms of gold. She lived comfortably with her husband and two sons, traveling in a prestigious Ambassador car when few owned vehicles.
Tragedy struck when excessive spending depleted her wealth, her sons developed serious illnesses, and she lost her husband. Within a single week, both her sons passed away. Her lawyer daughter-in-law systematically claimed her remaining assets, leaving Leela homeless in her elder years.
Concerned community members brought her to Sai Nikethana Seva Ashram, where she formed loving bonds with residents, staff, and visitors alike. For five years, she found dignity and connection until peacefully passing from age-related illness.
Leela’s story reminds us that life’s circumstances can change dramatically, but with proper care and community support, everyone deserves to live their later years with respect and love.
